The cycle path is well tended and passes along on mostly flat terrain.
Stage 1: Arrival at Koblenz
Take your time to stroll through the ancient part of Koblenz. Go to the monument “Deutsches Eck” where the Moselle joins the Rhine with a splendid view onto the fort of Ehrenbreitstein or continue to the chair lift on the other side of the Rhine to get up to the fort. From there you will have a fantastic overlook of Koblenz.
Stage 2: Koblenz to St. Goar (40 Km)
In the morning you will start your cycling tour at Koblenz. At Rhens you will have a breathtaking view onto Marksburg castle at Braubach. Continue the tour to Boppard. This place is famous for its wine and its old town. A chairlift takes you to the Vierseenblick (view point) to look onto the River Rhine from the bird’s eye view. After having enjoyed this unrivalled view continue to St. Goar.
Stage 3: St. Goar to Rüdesheim (29 km)
After breakfast you may learn a lot about the Rhine valley at the Loreley visitor centre. Alternatively you could pay a visit to the Rheinfels castle. With its vaulted passage ways and tunnels is one of the most interesting castles along the middle Rhine valley. Continue to Bacharach. This village is adorned with many charming half-timbered houses and cosy lanes housing country style wine pubs and attractive cafeterias. After your lunch break continue to Bingen and cross the Rhine to Rüdesheim. Once at the hotel, we recommend a stroll through the famous Drosselgasse. (narrow lane)
Rüdesheim – Eltville 15,4 Km
optional: Eltville – Koster Eberbach 6,00 Km
optional: Kloster Eberbach – Eltville 6,00 Km
total distance 27,4 Km
Today you cycle to the romantic village Eltville. There are many well preserved half-timbered houses surrounding the picturesque townscape. From the town center of Eltville it’s only a stone’s throw to Eberbach abbey.
The monastery with its former Cistercian abbey is considered one of the most significant ancient monuments of Hesse. In 1986 the monastery gained fame when scenes of Umberto Eco’s international bestseller “The name of the Rose” were filmed there. The road to the monastery leads constantly uphill. That’s why we recommend this part of the tour only to experienced cyclists. Alternatively to the visit of the monastery you can take a walk through Eltville. Numerous cozy wineries and restaurants invite to a relaxing rest.
After visiting the monastary you cycle back to Eltville.
Stage 4: Eltville- Mainz 22
